Rain tapped softly against the windows as Julia passed the dark hallway. In the toy mirror beside the dollhouse she saw her daughter asleep on the sofa and something pale crouched behind her with blinking eyes.
Julia picked the toy mirror off the bedroom carpet and froze when the reflection smiled a second too late. Her daughter kept drawing on the walls behind her while the face in the plastic glass watched only Julia.
